The State of Israel is a country in the Levant region of West Asia. It is located in the southeast direction of the Mediterranean, borders with Lebanon on the north side, neighbors with Syria and Jordan on the east and Egypt on the southwest side. It declared its independence in 1948, and in January 2014 the population reached 8.13 million, of which 6.11 million were Jews. It is the only country in the world with Jews being its main nationality.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and the seat of the central government. Israel is the only free and democratic country in the Middle East. Israel has a relatively high degree of industrialization and has strong overall economic strength. Israel is also the country with the highest level of economic development, commercial freedom, freedom of the press and the overall human development index in the Middle East.

Israel's contribution to the development of science and technology is considerable. Since the founding of the country, Israel has been committed to research and development of science and engineering technology, and Israeli scientists are quite outstanding in making contributions to genetics, computer science, optics, engineering and other technology industry. On November 23, 2014, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement that the Israeli Cabinet approved a bill defining Israel as a "Jewish State".
